Kanaka Flats Sunset & Full Moon Hike--Santa Ysabel Preserve East on Saturday, August 5th at 6:15pm-9:00pm

Date:
Saturday, August 5, 2017 - 6:15pm

Saturday, August 5th from 6:15 pm to 9:00 pm Join Ranger Bill Augustus on a sunset hike in the Santa Ysabel East Preserve.  We will be hiking a section of the Coast to Crest Trail that leads up to Kanaka flats.  Enjoy discussions about the history, plants and wildlife of the area and experience the Preserve after dark.  At the Kanaka summit, we will take time to enjoy the Sunset and a view of the coast.  Our hike back will be under an almost full moon. This is a slower paced hike so it is great for family’s and pets.  Dogs must be on a leash. If you are not quite ready for the full 6 miles, there is an option to turnaround at the 2 mile point just before we hit the hills.

This hike will include an elevation gain and loss of approximately 1000 feet in 1.5 miles.  The total hike distance will be approximately 6 miles.  Please dress in layers as the temperature will vary throughout the hike.  Wear sturdy hiking shoes, and bring plenty of water. Part of this hike will be in the dark so please bring a flashlight.

This hike will be canceled if it rains

Meet at the Farmer Road Staging Area of Santa Ysabel Preserve East; 114-117 Farmer Road, Julian CA 92036.
