Take A Hike! Debuts to Enthusiastic VMF-Nickel Beer Crowd of Supporters

Julian's Independence Day crowds had already headed back home at the start of the week, but there was still more to celebrate. Thank you to all the Volcan Mountain Foundation (VMF) supporters that came out strong for the debut of the 2016 Nickel Beer Company charity brew--an extra pale ale, dubbed Take A Hike!

Befitting its name, beer and nature-loving hikers kicked off the afternoon by…taking a hike! They explored the Five Oaks Trail of the Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve, led by VMF board member Eric Jones with help from Park Attendant Bill Augustus.

Having worked up a powerful thirst, they joined the rest of the crowd back at the Nickel Beer Company where weeks earlier, owner and brewmaster, Tom Nickel had guided eight 'citizen brewers' in the process of creating and brewing this new beer.

The fruits of their labor were enthusiastically enjoyed by all on the beautiful, balmy July evening. Along with appetizers, a tour of the brew room and some fun door prizes a great time was had by all.

Many thanks to Tom Nickel and his terrific staff at the brewery for this delicious donation in support of VMF's critical conservation efforts. Thank you also to our citizen brewers: Lori & Mark Barker, Mark Camp, George Garvey, Ted Hromadka, Ray Ravare, Cameron Smith and John Spratley.

Be sure and swing by the Nickel Beer Company for your taste of Take A Hike! And when you head out to take a hike on Volcan Mountain, visit the VMF website at www.volcanmt.org for ongoing updates of events and activities on and around the Volcan Mountain Range.
