Volcan Mountain Smarty-Plants Walk, Saturday, May 28th, 9am

Date:
Saturday, May 28, 2016 - 9:00am

Saturday, May 28th at 9am enjoy a Volcan Mountain ‘Smarty-Plants’ Walk. This is a rescheduled event that was rained out from Mother's Day weekend and orginally part of the Julian Women's Club Wildflower Show that had a theme of ‘Smarty Plants’: The Intelligence of Plants.

Plants are much smarter than previously thought! Even though they sit in one place and don’t have brains, they solve problems, communicate with themselves and other plants and animals, recognize their own kind, and move purposefully. Explore some of the ‘Smarty Plants’ around Julian’s Volcan Mountain and foothills with Volcan Mountain Foundation Education Coordinator Janice Smith, and local plant and wildflower experts, Larry Hendrickson and Sally Snipes.

Limited to 20 participants. Meet at the Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve's Hubbell Gateway (1209 Farmer Road) at 9am. Park along the side of the road and walk up the gravel driveway to the Hubbell Gateway trailhead.

From there the group will head partway up the Volcan Trail to discover and learn more about wildflowers and plants like yarrow, sticky geranium, show daisy, hood sedge, silky lupine, Indian paintbrush, herbaceous sage, arrow leaf, balsam root, and horsemint...just to name a few!
