The Volcan Mountain Summit Hike originally scheduled for Saturday, November 28th with Park Attendant Bill Augustus has been canceled because the County Preserves have been closed due to inclement weather. For updates or questions contact the Mountain-Borrego Preserve ranger staff at 760-765-4098.

Learn about the history and geography of the area. Take in the panoramic views while hiking the Five Oaks trail,  where on a clear day you can enjoy a bird’s eye view of Julian, 360 degree views from the summit include the buildings of downtown San Diego and Islands off the coast of Mexico and Southern California, to the east the Salton Sea and the surrounding desert.

This hike is considered strenuous, with an elevation gain of approximately 1000 ft in 2 miles.  The overall hike will be around 7 miles.  Please dress in layers as the temperature can change dramatically as we reach the summit.  Wear sturdy hiking shoes and carry plenty of water.  Bring a snack or lunch for the summit. Please park along Farmer Road and meet at the Hubbell gate at 9:00, located approximately 300 feet up the gravel road from the Volcan Mountain parking area. Weather permitting; we will be hiking to the summit.
