Volcan Mountain Foundation makes most of “bonus period” before owl nesting
Determined to protect and restore the montane forest ecosystem, work crews launched the Volcan Mountain Montane Forest Habitat Resilience Project ahead of schedule to complete important work before nesting season for the California spotted owl began Feb. 15.

JULIAN—Volcan Mountain Foundation has added substantially to its land holdings with a gift of 684 acres from the estate of Ann Peckham Keenan.
Finalized in November, the gift includes funding to manage the acreage on the eastern slope of Volcan Mountain near Borrego and Warner Springs.

A state agency has approved a $1.55 million grant for Volcan Mountain Foundation to restore portions of the nearly 1,100 acres it owns and manages near Julian.
The Wildlife Conservation Board Nov. 15 approved funding for the foundation’s Volcan Mountain Montane Forest Habitat Resilience Project.
